Frequently Asked Questions

I feed my dog a healthy diet. Do I still need to supplement?

YES! Not enough dog lovers realize the importance of DAILY nutritional supplementation in the form of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids

Nutritional supplements, used in conjunction with a high-quality diet, not only makes the nutrients in the food we feed more available to our dogs, but it also enhances recovery from stress, injury and illness, while helping to prevent the onset oproblems and skin disorders.

Why would I supplement if the food I feed already has vitamins and minerals in it?

Because vitamins and minerals are easily denatured during processing, making them technically present but not highly useful.

We recommend supplementing at the time of feeding so that your dog receives the maximum benefit from the vitamins and minerals you administer and also to ensure your dog gets the correct dosage for their unique body weight.

My dog is on a prescription diet. Can I still supplement?

YES! We recommend doing this in conjunction with your vet. Whole Hound supplements are free from all artificial ingredients, sweeteners, preservatives and do not contain any animal-based ingredients or common allergens.

Appropriate nutritional supplementation, including the use of quality digestive enzymes, can help make the nutrients that exist in prescription foods more available to your dog(s) and play a supportive role in health recovery and maintenance.

Whole Hound supplements come in powder form, which is great because they are free from ingredients that I don’t want, such as the binding agents found in tablets, but it means that I need to moisten the food when I mix in the supplements. Will that reduce the teeth-cleaning effect of my dog’s dry food?

NO! Many people believe that dry dog food helps keep canine teeth clean, which is actually a myth.

In fact, appropriate pH levels in dogs do more to keep their teeth clean. A proper pH balance (acid/alkaline balance) ensures the necessary acidity in our dog’s saliva to combat bacteria that can lead to tooth decay and gingivitis. Vitamins and minerals contribute to ideal pH levels in both humans and dogs. External massage of the teeth and gums can be achieved by feeding a raw meaty bone once a week or so, which also provides mental stimulation.

How long will it take to see results?

Nutritional supplements help over time, not overnight.

We recommend using nutritional supplements consistently for a minimum of 30 days before gauging results. Having said that, many people see benefits after 2 weeks. For best results, use daily.

Whole Hound products are premium quality. Does that mean they are more expensive than other canine supplements on the market?

NO! Even though we only use premium quality ingredients, we do NOT add any fillers, preservatives, additives or flavourings resulting in products that are more concentrated and that last longer comparatively.

We value our customer’s dollars and sense, so we made the following chart to show the monthly and daily cost of our products so that our customers can understand and compare the value they get for the dollars they spend.

Testimonials

"We wanted to feed our newly acquired Pug cross puppy raw food, which was what we fed our larger dog, but after slowly phasing out her kibble she developed digestive troubles, and so after trying and failing twice we wondered if she was missing something in her system. We decided to add Total Health Plus and Flax Lecithin Blend to her food, thinking a vitamin & mineral supplement which includes Digestive Support and an essential fatty acid supplement might be what she needed. After a week we started to switch her over again to the raw food and we had no problems. She loves her vitamins, she loves her food, and we get complimented all the time on how healthy she looks." - Cyndi & Cricket
